What do sweet potatoes look like?

There are many types of sweet potatoes; some are round, others spindle-shaped or just elongated. The color of the shell is also different - it varies between reddish, yellowish, whitish and brownish. When it comes to taste, the name says it all: The tuber has a delicious, sweet taste. It contains sugar, but almost no fat at all. Another benefit is that sweet potatoes are very healthy. They contain many vitamins and minerals. A simple rule of thumb applies here: the more intense the color, the healthier the tuber!

Lots of folate and antioxidants

The sweet potato contains not only a lot of beta-carotene, which has a cell protective effect and protects our immune system, but also a lot of folate, better known as natural folic acid. Therefore, consumption is also very suitable for pregnant women, as folic acid is important for the healthy development of the embryo cells. Since the tuber is very rich in antioxidants that help prevent inflammation in the body, it is also very helpful in preventing heart disease.

Preparation tips for healthy sweet potatoes

There are many ways of preparing a delicious sweet potato dish. More and more people are eating sweet potato chips, for example, as they are a lot healthier than potato chips and they are also easy to prepare. For this, the tuber must be washed well, but not peeled. Then cut into very fine slices, for example with the help of a vegetable slicer. Season the slices with salt and pepper, drizzle with oil and mix a little. Now all you have to do is place them next to each other on a baking sheet and brown them in a preheated oven at 200 degrees until they have the right consistency.

Another option is the sweet potato soup. Here, too, the effort is not great: peel and dice around 800 grams of the colored tuber. Then fry an onion and a little garlic, shortly afterwards add the cubes and add about 1 liter of stock. Of course, you can season it as you like - whether with a little rosemary, parsley or nutmeg. The mass can be pureed after 15 minutes at the latest. After seasoning, serve the soup with some bread or toast. French fries made from sweet potatoes also taste great. Anyone who tries a little and rummages through various cooking recipes is guaranteed to find a method of preparation to their taste - which is also healthy!
