Types of information

From a pragmatic point of view, information serves to reduce the degree of indeterminacy in a (decision) situation. A distinction can be made between several types of information according to their form of statement (see table). A distinction is made between perfect and imperfect information according to the salary. In the case of imperfect information, not all the variables involved in a decision problem and their changes are not clarified, so that there is always a residual uncertainty. If information represents management information, it can be related to motivation or task. Motivation-related or stimulating information is used to influence the willingness to perform on the part of the task holder, while task-related information only affects the decision-making problem of the task holder in a factually objective sense. A distinction between "hard" and "soft" information is intended to express how exactly the variables used in the information can be represented. Numbers are "harder" information than verbal descriptions, for example. Further properties and characteristics can be found if, for example, one asks about the objectivity, verifiability or the topicality of information.

According to the type of purpose, information can be divided into:

1. Planning information. They are necessary in order to set goals for future planning periods and to determine the alternative courses of action that correspond to the goals.

2. Default information. They must be available for the resolution of production processes based on the division of labor and for their coordination.

3. Control information. They serve the

Assessment of the action results. After the phases of the decision-making process, a similar systematization of the types of information can be carried out, namely a distinction can be made between forecast, specification and control information, the forecast information being excitation or initial information, alternative information and restriction or limitation information. The default information relates to the implementation phase and contains the information for implementing the decision result. The control information includes the revision information in the event of deviations from the decision result. According to the modality of the information, the main types of information are as follows:

1. factual information,

2. prognostic information,

3. explanatory information,

4. conjunctive information,

5. normative information,

6. Logical information.
