What are some tips for bank customer service

Interview at the bank: this is how you are successful

You apply as a bank clerk and are invited to an interview. After the initial joy, there is now panic: What is expected of me? How do I prepare properly?

Since you will have a lot of customer contact in your future job, above all you have to prove your speaking and argumentation skills. That may sound difficult, but with a lot of practice it can be mastered. We'll show you how to do it.

In addition to specialist knowledge and thorough knowledge of the company, your appearance is also decisive, especially in banking. Therefore, pay close attention to your body language and clothing during the interview. In the following we will tell you what you should absolutely avoid.

Before the interview at the bank

Preparing for your job interview as a bank clerk is just as important as the interview itself. You should therefore allow yourself enough time for it. The more days left before your interview, the better! Many are afraid of the long waiting time because they fear negative thoughts and stress. This won't happen if you start preparing on time. Then you will notice that you are better and better prepared for the conversation - and that will calm you down.

Mouth open!

The most important thing in an interview is the ability to speak freely. If you suspect that this could be your weak point, there is only one solution: practice consistently. Talk to yourself in front of the mirror. In the beginning it doesn't matter what it is about. For example, you can tell yourself the news from the day before or summarize the contents of your last book.

As soon as you feel that free talking is working, try it with your friends. Perhaps even let your friends dictate the topic you are supposed to talk about - after all, it will also be given to you by the HR manager during the interview.

Now it's time to take another step. Go over your résumé and cover letter again. In order to write it, you have probably already asked yourself why you want this job of all places and why you are particularly qualified for this job.

Try to answer these questions again without repeating the formulations from your documents. Explain it to yourself first and then to your friends. Also, ask them to pay attention not only to the content but also to your body language. Don't memorize the text! HR managers notice this immediately and may reject the candidate.

It is not only important that you can speak freely about your qualifications and motivation, but also that you learn to praise yourself from time to time. There is no place for humility in an interview. Of course, you mustn't fall into arrogance and complacency in the process, but be aware that your accomplishments deserve recognition.

Open your eyes and ears!

Before the interview, many people simply fixate on their knowledge and bury themselves in books and journals for days. Of course, there is nothing wrong with re-examining certain things - especially if you feel that you don't know as much as you would like about one or more specific topics. But would the bank have invited you for an interview if your expertise was really inadequate?

It is more important to find out more about the bank to which you are applying. This includes the history, the products and the company culture. Maybe you can get in touch with current or former employees of the bank in advance and get tips. A candidate who has dealt not only with the job description, but also with the entire company, scores immediately at the interview.

How do I act?

If you have prepared yourself well for the interview at the bank, there is not much to worry about. You know who you are and what you can do, and you are able to present yourself that way. Should a little stress arise anyway, remember the preparation phase and how you gave a presentation to your group of friends. Imagine it's just one more exercise and the recruiters questioning you don't mean any harm to you.

This will also help you get rid of the underlying belief that the people you are speaking to are superior to you. Instead, you'll be talking to them on an equal footing. Submission and shyness towards the recruiter are among the most common mistakes made by candidates in job interviews.

Body language is also important. A relaxed, but not too casual, posture would be ideal. The smile should not be missing, but also not be artificial! When you find that this is difficult for you, think of a place you like to be or a situation that makes you feel comfortable.

If the answer to a question doesn't spring to mind right away, don't be afraid to admit it. Look your interlocutor in the face with a smile and say something like: “That is a good question. I have to think about it for a moment. ”It is perfectly okay to take a short break and pause. The emphasis here is on “short”: You only have a few seconds to think about it. Don't try to switch to a more familiar topic! This is an absolute no-go.

What do i wear?

The right clothes for a job interview at a bank is the eternal dilemma of all candidates. In banking, the choice is actually quite limited. You should urgently avoid flashy colors such as red, pink or orange as well as casual clothing. Visible tattoos, piercings and unusual hairstyles or hair colors are also undesirable.

For men, a good quality suit with a solid color shirt and matching tie is still the best choice. Many people like to do without a jacket in summer; however, we recommend wearing it and only taking it off if the HR staff is also not wearing one.

Even women can't go wrong with a blouse, blazer and matching trousers or a (at least knee-length) skirt. A simple, functional business dress would also be conceivable in summer. The shoes are welcome to have heels, but 20 cm would be too much of a good thing. You should avoid large and heavy jewelry and heavy make-up.
