Photoshop has a real competitor

Adobe Photoshop: alternatives to the industry leader

There are two tools available on the Pixlr website for different purposes: The Pixlr Editor and Pixlr Express. Both tools are available as a web app and desktop version (for Windows and macOS) as well as a mobile app for iOS and Android. The web version enabled fast, web-based editing of images - registration or installation of software is not necessary. You simply upload the images to be edited in the browser and edit them directly there. The main focus of application is in the online area. The tool automatically outputs the images in a resolution of 96 dpi, which is the ideal size for image material that is optimized for the web.

Pixlr Express enables fast, yet versatile image processing. The tool is easy to use and, despite the large selection of effect tools that you can use to e.g. B. implements overlays, frames and many other features, always clearly. However, you can only save your work as a JPEG file.

If that's not enough for you and if you also need a larger range of functions, you can go with the Pixlr Editor one step further. In addition to the standard filters and editing options, such as brushes, selection tools and correction tools, the Pixlr Editor offers (almost) everything a Photoshop heart desires: retouching images, working in layers or using gradation curves, images cropping and color corrections (image and tonal value corrections) - no problem at all. A total of over 25 professional image processing features are available

There are of course some limitations to the web tool as well. The standard resolution mentioned above is not an option for everyone, and you cannot work in the CMYK color space. The formats available are JPEG, PNG, TIFF, BMP and Pixlr's own PXD format.

The Pixlr Editor is not a full-fledged Photoshop alternative, but it is a good image editing program that is primarily designed for web images. You can find many tutorials and help on the internet. If you want to get an idea of what is possible with Pixlr, you will find endless examples on the “Made with Pixlr” page.
