Helicopter parenting is encouraged in American society

Parenthood between project and projection

This volume brings together current social science perspectives of parent research, with which parenthood between “project and projection” is outlined as an independent field of research. At present, parents are moving into the focus of educational and socio-political, social and media attention in a variety of ways. Combined with the change in family understandings and images of childhood and intertwined with changed gender and wage employment relationships, parenting is increasingly becoming a creative task that alternates between demands and excessive demands. The complex requirements of parenthood as well as the heterogeneous life situations and practices of parents are made the subject of theoretical reflections and empirical analyzes in the individual contributions to this volume.
