Do you play Minecraft with your kids

Minecraft: The Java Edition is transferred to your Microsoft account

Improvements are only possible through changes - Minecraft is no exception. Therefore, all of our games, including the Minecraft Java Edition, now require a Microsoft account. Why do you ask yourself? As if we were moving, we move from our old house, which has become too small, to a bigger, better home. It does take some effort, but as soon as it is done you will enjoy new comfort that is well worth the effort. In our case, this increase in convenience consists of the new features that are only possible with a Microsoft account:

  • Improved account security with two-factor authentication. Thanks to this additional security measure, your account is even better protected against unauthorized access from outside.
  • All your Minecraft titles for Windows 10 PC are bundled in a single account. Currently these are Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons - but who knows what the future holds in store.
  • Improved child protection measures to help parents ensure their children are protected while they play online.
  • Blocking of invitations and chats.

This is how your Minecraft migrates from Java to Microsoft

To be clear: the migration from Mojang to Microsoft accounts is mandatory. If you don't move sooner or later, you will no longer be able to log in in a few months - that means that gaming would no longer be possible either! But don't worry, we'll go through the necessary steps piece by piece with you so that you can immerse yourself in the world of blocks and creepers in no time at all. You can find all the information you need in an FAQ on our support page, accompanied by helpful videos on our YouTube channel - we will also send you an email to your saved email address to be on the safe side.

After your move, you will continue to enjoy all the amenities that you already loved in the Java edition. You can still create and use mods and skins - because of course you keep your previous collection. In addition, you continue to play with your friends on Java servers - regardless of which version they are using. You also keep your Minecraft Java username. The only noticeable difference is a reward that you receive as soon as you log in to your Microsoft account for the first time: a super cool cape! In this way, you not only show that you have already made the move, but also demonstrate an unmistakable taste in fashion. Maybe that won't be the only outfit you'll be showing off - but more on that later! When will the migration take place?

If you already have an account with Java or Mojang, the move will begin in the first few months of 2021. For players who are creating an account for Minecraft Java for the first time, we recommend that you create a Microsoft account directly from autumn. Here you will find a sequence of the specific migration process:

  • Since we have a very large Java community, we are gradually migrating the players to Microsoft. As soon as this move has taken place, you will also receive your cape.
  • As soon as the time has come, you will receive an email that answers all possible questions that may arise and guides you through the migration step by step. We will also only ever send this email to a subgroup of the community. So don't worry if your friends already have a notification in their inbox, but you haven't.
  • As soon as you have completed all the steps, use your Microsoft account and log into Minecraft. From this point on, it is no longer possible to log in to your Mojang account.
  • You will then receive your cape as our thanks for your help.

With all of these little aids and rewards, the migration will be carried out faster than you might think - so just look forward to your reward and the benefits that await you. We are already very excited!
