Recommended Love Movies on Netflix, or: 15 Really Good Rom Coms on Netflix

Hey guys, it's me again, your Netflix officer and romance film and rom-com fanatic. Like some of you after mine High School Movie Recommendations and Feelgood movie recommendations on Netflix, I love them and need them in my life. The love films, the kitschy Rom Coms, the shallow 90s pussies. I have now come to terms with the fact that they are an integral part of my life. They are the ying to my yang, the water to my fire, the butter to my Nutella. To put it that way, they are the balance and balance to my life. I can rarely switch off better than streaming love movies on Netflix or really good rom coms on Netflix. Even if I already know them inside out. It doesn't matter, I can look at them over and over again. And that's what I do, for example in Dirty Dancing, one of my favorite films. Say what you want! Dirty dancing is just awesome!

15 really good rom coms and romance films on Netflixthat I can watch over and over again:

Enola Holmes (2020)

I'm not really into historical films, but Enola Holmes is this kind of feminist historical drama in the style of Bridgerton or Little Women, where I like to make an exception. Here the story of Enola Holmes is told; the little sister of Sherlock Holmes. The whole film is reminiscent of a Sherlock Holmes drama, only it's not about the male hero, but his sister, played by the legendary Bobby Brown. She is strong, smart and is looking for her missing mother. On the side she also falls in love, which is not exploited in Enola Holmes, but which I still consider a love story.

My best Friends Wedding (1997)

Yes, I've recommended My best Friends Wedding a hundred times on amazed - at least as often as I've seen it. That's because I'm the biggest fan of this nineties rom com. I love this movie! Not just because I love all of the 90s rom-coms with Julia Roberts, but because the ending is just perfect. And I have a thing for films with good endings. It's about a woman who realizes her love for her best friend when he's about to get married.

Dirty Dancing (1987)

There's only one 80s or 90s rom com that I love more than My best Friends Wedding, and that's Dirty Dancing. Set in the 1960s, the film tells the story of a bourgeois family who spends their summers in an upper-middle-class resort. The youngest daughter "Baby" gets to know the people who work behind the scenes. And falls in love with her dance teacher.

Love Story (1970)

Love Story is a classic and to this day one of the most beautiful love dramas ever. And that although it is from 1970, or maybe because of it. I buy the love story between the young lovers from college completely from them. They are so passionate and their love story romantic. The ending is dramatic and the film manages to make me cry every time.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)

The Greek-Canadian actress Nia Vardalos put her autobiographical story on paper and canvas as a screenwriter and lead actress in the film My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I love this kitschy Rom Com because it plays with clichés and reproduces stereotypes, but in a sensitive way and by a Greek woman herself. It tells the story of an extended Greek family in a white suburb of America and the upcoming wedding of a daughter, the one Non-Greek marries.

Blue is the Warmest Color (2013)

To be honest, I'm always unsure whether I can still recommend the queer love story on Netflix. The two actresses, who fall in love in Blue is the Warmes Color, strongly criticized the director after the film was released. He would have forced her to do sex scenes for hours and was a choleric. But (unfortunately) the film is still so beautiful - and unfortunately one of the few really beautiful love films among women - that I still want to include it. A much better lesbian love story, by the way, is But I'm a Cheerleader - it's just not available on Netflix.

Set it up (2018)

The Netflix production Set it Up was not a classic, super shallow and yet entertaining and beautiful. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend it under the guise of the 90s classics, but have to give free rein to my love for shallow Rom Coms here. Set it Up is a perfectly normal love story about two couples. The couple and the couple fall in love with each other in parallel. And in a super nice way.

Ghost (1990)

Here's another movie that I can recommend under the guise of the classic: Ghost. My God, I've seen the film a lot in the past. And howled. The love story looks trashy from today's perspective, but the legendary pottery scene of the ghost Sam and the living Molly have been recreated so often that you have to have seen the original at least once, right?

Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008)

A film that you don't necessarily have to see, but that has brought me through sad times one time or another, was Forgetting Sarah Marshall. As silly and stupid as it is, along with a few other films it helps very well against heartache and bad mood. Probably because the protagonist Peter is also trying to get over his ex.

The Other Woman (2014)

Speaking of break-up movies. Another recommendation for heartbreak and bad mood is The Other Woman. The story is so stupid and banal, but it was surprisingly good entertainment. Two women are with the same man and decide to ally against him. And become friends at the same time. Yay!

Step up (2006)

Even worse than a weakness for love films is a weakness for love dance films. I admit it. But I have that too - how could it be otherwise? Therefore, of course, one of the most famous love dance films after Dirty Dancing, Flashdance and Save the last Dance has to be added to the list of really (relatively) good Rom Coms on Netflix: Step Up. If you haven't seen it, you should do so immediately. This is, so to speak, Rom-Com basic knowledge!
