What should we do during the festivals

Festival summer in MV does not completely fall through

The corona pandemic also seems to spoil the festival summer this year. But there is still hope, because in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania there are still many hard-working makers preparing for the festival season.

The renowned festivals in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, such as the Immergut Festival, Fusion and Airbeat One, are scheduled to take place this summer. The Immergut organizers have postponed their festival from May to August as a precaution and are currently in talks with the regulatory office in Neustrelitz, as this year everything is much more complicated due to the hygiene requirements, said Rike Tesch from the organizing team. The number of spectators has also been reduced from 5,000 to 3,000, and of course there will be a test concept: "Visitors have to be tested on arrival or bring a test with them," says Tesch. "If it is negative, you get your ribbon and are allowed in. On the last day there are also tests in our test center."

Unlike in previous years, there will be no party tent. So everything should take place in the open air as far as possible and not in closed rooms. Dealing with authorities is very different this year than in 2020: This year, more trust is placed in test concepts and overall more accessible, says Tesch.

Fusion Festival is spread over two weekends

The Fusion Festival in Lärz has also developed an extensive hygiene concept: Similar to the Immergut Festival, there will be tests on arrival and at the end of the festival. However, this year the visitors will be divided: There will be two festival periods in order to be able to distribute the people better. 35,000 Fusion guests on two weekends at the end of June and the beginning of July should therefore be tested before and during the festival. If tourism is allowed in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in summer, then the organizers want to go through with their festival.

Airbeat One planned with 80,000 visitors

The organizers of Airbeat One in Neustadt-Glewe are also very confident: They are planning their festival with full capacity, i.e. with 80,000 visitors. Of course, there will also be a test concept there, and on top of that, payments will be made completely cashless on the festival site: All visitors will receive wristbands with microchips, which will result in fewer contacts. Those responsible hope that the vaccination rate will pick up so that there is more security at the beginning of July.

Meeresrausch Festival on Usedom canceled

On the other hand, some of the smaller organizers do not have that long stamina because mostly volunteers organize everything there. The team from the Meeresrausch Festival on Usedom had to cancel its event because there were too many unanswered questions and the effort for the makers could not be met, says one of the organizers, Maik Eichler. The long queue for testing at the entrance alone would be a huge problem, and otherwise there would be many weak points, as you would have to test all of them repeatedly. That is not realistic, and that is also not what the organizers wanted. They would have received a high five-figure grant, but in the end it was all too uncertain for them.

Festival organizers financially struggling

Hopefully, Corona will not be as big a topic as this one in the coming year. But the festival organizers are still a bit financially troubled. It is all the more important to join forces in the future and share experiences with one another. For this reason, the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival Alliance was recently set up, a kind of umbrella organization. There will be specialist days at which lecturers will inform the festival organizers on topics such as safety, law and hygiene. One of the founders of the festival alliance is Daniel Nietsch. He already has wishes and demands for the future: "I think it is important that the state government plans aid money for the next two to three years in order to maintain our great festival landscape. One must not forget that festivals in the respective region are socio-cultural Have tasks and involve local initiatives, businesses and artists in festivals. " Nietsch and his colleagues are already working on a paper for political demands. It should contain everything that you specifically need to maintain the festivals in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
