Are all old-fashioned in a computer
Calculator term explanation and definition
Definition of the word calculator
As is well known, the word computer is mainly used for the small devices that are actually used as computers. You can use them to calculate plus, minus, times or divided, i.e. add, subtract, multiply and divide. And of course a lot more that need not be listed here. Every normal cell phone also has these arithmetic functions. And of course every large calculator or computer. Basically, the term calculator also fits modern computers. As almost everyone knows, the data that is processed here consists only of ones and zeros. They are calculated in a way that is difficult for laypeople to understand, so that a programming code is created from which programs emerge as a result. This is of course only an amateur representation. From a purely technical point of view, computers of all kinds actually calculate in order to provide their performance. It can be assumed that the words computer and calculator were originally combined because the first computers, which at that time still filled entire rooms, were ultimately better adding machines. It is well known that back then you were already proud when you were able to solve a complicated equation or something similar.
What is a calculator?
A computer includes hardware and software. It does not work without a processor, installed memory (= RAM) and an operating system. Everything is available on the market in different levels of performance. A hard drive, a keyboard and a screen are also required. This is integrated in a netbook or laptop, otherwise a monitor must be connected. For this reason and also to connect other devices, there are plug connections. These additional devices can be a printer, a scanner, a mouse, or whatever. Most devices have a pad as a mouse replacement and a CD drive. Cameras are at least built into many laptops. In order for a computer to do its job, it now also needs suitable programs. No newfangled computer is complete without a connection to the Internet. A word processor also seems essential. Every user can set up his "computer" in a way that suits and makes sense. The times are different from when a pocket calculator itself was a high-tech device. Progress cannot be stopped. Not even in parlance. At some point the time could come when people don't think of a computer when they hear the word “calculator”, regardless of whether it is a desktop, laptop or notebook. When experts speak of a computer and actually mean a computer, what they are talking about is the actual computing power, i.e. the system or processor capability. The higher the figures given by the manufacturer, the better the equipment, the higher the computing power and thus the performance of the entire computer. In this case, of course, it is not a question of how quickly a computer adds 1 + 1. It's about general skills.
Calculator in everyday life
It's not like computers are only used at work or at home for fun. They are used everywhere in everyday life, be it at the bank, for example, or at the checkout in the supermarket. Little works without the chips that computers (and also old-fashioned computers in the literal sense of the word) are basically made of. Of course, nobody says: "I'll go to the computer" when they want to pay for their purchases. Nobody thinks of a computer when the account statements are printed out or money is withdrawn from the machine with an EC card. “I'm going to the computer” is a sentence uttered by someone who wants to go to a computer.
