Like most other public events since mid-March the Phillies Charities 5K was postponed due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

The Philadelphia Phillies organization has now announced that the event, originally scheduled for March 28, 2020, will be held in “virtual” format. Details were sent to fans last week:

“In an effort to best serve our fans, all registrants will be able to decide how to proceed with their registration by choosing from one of the following options:

1. Virtual Run/Walk
While we may not be able to run together for the 2020 Phillies Charities 5K, you can still earn your finisher medal! Complete a 3.1 mile run or walk on the course of your choosing – anywhere from around your neighborhood to a treadmill in your home and submit your results to your Race Roster account. Virtual runners will be sent further instructions in early June, including a link through which you can upload your run/walk results. Participants will receive their finisher medal in the mail, shipped to the address on your Race Roster account, once the Phillies offices reopen for business.

Please note that the 2020 ticket voucher in your race packet is now void. Virtual participants will receive a digital voucher via email in Spring 2021 redeemable online for four tickets to select Phillies games in April 2021.

2. Donation to Phillies Charities, Inc.
If you are not interested in participating in a virtual run/walk, your registration fee may be donated to Phillies Charities, Inc. You will receive a finisher medal and digital ticket voucher as described above.

3. Refund
We understand that this is a difficult time for many and want to assist our fans in any way we can. Registrants may request a refund for the race and processing fees. Please allow 10-15 business days for your refund to process.

To select your preference:
1. Sign in to your Race Roster dashboard.
2. Click the blue “Edit Registration” button.
3. Under the Registration Questions tab, make your selection.
4. Click “Save & Exit” to apply your choice of the following options:
• Virtual Run/Walk
• Donation to Phillies Charities, Inc.
• Refund

I was registered to take part in the event, which I first participated in last year. At this point, I am leaning towards actually doing the run (oh, I’ll be walking.) However, chance that I may simply donate the fee. I will not be seeking a refund and look forward to participating in 2021.

Fans are asked by the Phillies to make their decision on whether they wish to participate in a run/walk, donate their registration fee, or receive a refund by Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 5:00 PM EDT.
